About Us
It all began in 2001 when we opened ‘The Surf Shop’ in a quite jungle town in Costa Rica. The scenic pueblo of Santa Teresa started out as a remote fishing village. Recently, it has blossomed into a funky hot spot with a great nightlife, excellent restaurants, and year-round waves. It has the great combination of Pacific Ocean, picturesque beaches, variety of surf breaks, and friendly locals. In 2010, we moved to a killer new location in northern Santa Teresa. Our new home base sits directly in front of a jungle path to the beach. It doesn’t get any better than this!
Cosmic Benny
Bennison Sherrod’s sense of adventure came when her family took her to Guatemala when she was eleven. Benny believes that surfing, endless sunshine, and the pura vida way of life are the perfect recipe for a day. She recently taught her beagle puppy Mango to surf and also loves stand up paddleboarding. She is happiest when she is in the water surrounded by her surf sistas! Bennison is CPR and first aid certified and has completed a 5-day lifesaving course.
Aussie Al
Alvaro Lopez, born in Chile and raised in Australia. His passion for surfing has taken him to far-flung corners of the planet looking for adventure, knowledge and perfect waves. He came to Costa Rica in 2002. He incorporates physical, dynamic, mental and spiritual aspects of surfing into his teaching. Al says, “The Ocean is an awe inspiring place with its beauty and power.” When he is not in sunny Costa Rica, he can be found snowboarding backcountry near Salt Lake City, Utah. Alvaro is CPR and First Aid certified and is experienced in surf lifesaving.
